ChimeraXR Wins Third Edition of Pitch to the Chief™ at Venture13

Cobourg, ON – The V13 Policetech Accelerator has announced ChimeraXR as the winner of the Third Edition of the popular Pitch to the Chief™ competition held in the Innovation Commons at Venture13 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre.

Seven tech start-ups from across the innovation corridor presented solutions to improve operational efficiency in policing services. They were:

From AR/VR to blockchain, from IT systems to forensics and hardware, participants had ten minutes on stage to engage with a panel of judges led by Chief of Police Paul VandeGraaf and senior personnel, along with the Town of Cobourg’s Manager of Economic Development, Daniel Van Kampen, and Cobourg’s Fire Chief, Ellard Beaven.

ChimeraXR, a virtual reality training system, emerged as the winner on November 3rd, receiving $5,000, a membership in the VentureZone co-working space (sponsored by NCFDC), and support from the V13 Policetech Accelerator for a collaborative pilot project with the Cobourg Police Service.

“The Pitch to the Chief event was a unique opportunity for companies like mine, to get in front of decision makers in the police services industry. The ability to showcase our company and technologies through the event has enabled downstream interactions and pilot opportunities with front line officers and the V13 Policetech Accelerator,” said Taylor McCubbin-Freer. “The initial feedback on our product and future market intelligence was invaluable.”

“The start-up teams delivered seven unique and exciting technologies and services, addressing bottleneck issues faced by police services across Canada,” said Paul VandeGraaf, Chief of Cobourg Police. “We look forward to working with Taylor McCubbin-Freer from ChimeraXR to explore the benefits of virtual reality training systems in policing and run a pilot here at the Cobourg Police Service.”

“Pitch to the Chief is an initiative that brings together local leadership with innovation-driven entrepreneurs from across Ontario and beyond,” said Wendy Curtis, Executive Director of NCFDC. “All of the founders who pitched to the Chief demonstrated an impressive dedication to helping solve real-world problems. We are grateful for their ongoing work to improve community safety and the overall effectiveness of our emergency services.”

The next edition of Pitch to the Chief will be announced early in 2023.
